Junior Livestock Sale is July 30 – Aug. 1

Register now to bid in online livestock sale

PRESS RELEASE July 28, 2020

The Junior Livestock Show by 4-H and FFA youth of their prize-winning livestock, rabbits and poultry takes place this week at the Garfield County Fairgrounds in Rifle, though organizers are holding the events solely online as a COVID-19 safety measure. Participating youth created videos of themselves with their animals and uploaded them to Fair Entry to be judged.

All in-person events have been canceled at this year’s Garfield County Fair and Rodeo, but interested buyers can still participate in the livestock sale and help reward the local 4-H kids for their hard work in raising various livestock and other animals, including beef, pork, lamb, goat, rabbits and poultry.

Registration must be completed by July 29. Buyers can call (970) 625-3969, ext. 3, to update an existing account or create a new one. Access the Colorado State University (CSU) Extension direct bidding portal link through the home page of the Garfield County Fair website at garfieldcountyfair.com, or the direct sale link is at www.fairentry.com, and from there participants must choose Garfield County, Colorado. The sale opens at noon on July 30, and closes at noon on Aug. 1. Winning bidders will be notified by email.

“We would like to thank all of our sponsors and participants for their past and continued support and remind everyone that we are still having the 4-H Virtual livestock and open class shows and virtual livestock sale,” said Garfield County Fair Board President Levy Burris. “There is a great need to support our 4-H youth this year more than ever; please get involved with these events. Sponsors and buyers are needed to make this a success!”

The Summer of Thunder car show is also taking place this year at Rifle Middle School, 850 Railroad Avenue, on Saturday, August 1, starting at 10 a.m.

The fair website also features this year’s Hall of Fame dedication to first responders serving the community. Also, the community remembers J. Cleveland Gentry and Audrey Squires with the “in memoriam” dedication, featuring video of a riderless horse led by Garfield County Fair royalty.

4-H general projects and open class exhibits are also at the fairgrounds this week. More information on those can be found at facebook.com/garfieldcountyfair. Learn more about the fair’s operations this year by visiting garfieldcountyfair.com and updates will be posted as they become available.
